Opioids and Other Analgesics (Package 2) | Russell K. Portenoy, MD, Ebtesam Ahmed, PharmD, MS, and Bernard Lee, MD | PHYSICIANS

  1. Package of three webinars for physicians and nurse practitioners on adjuvant analgesics, methadone, and medical cannabis - 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits
  2. Patients with moderate or severe chronic pain in the setting of serious or advanced chronic illness should be considered for opioid therapy. Some patients may be particularly good candidates for methadone and clinicians require specific knowledge of this drug to use it safely and effectively. Other patients should be considered for co-administration of non-opioid drugs that may augment analgesia or assist in the management of opioid side effects by reducing the opioid requirement or providing a means to control symptoms other than pain. This package includes three webinars, one focused on the safe and effective use of methadone for pain and two describing the use of nonopioid drugs - the diverse group known as the "adjuvant analgesics" and medical cannabis - that may be useful therapies when combined with opioids or offered instead.
